Originally the solo expression of Dan Forrest in 2015, and now a full band, Buddie is a 4-piece act from Philadelphia, PA that writes fuzzy, poppy, rock songs about social anxiety, environmentalism, and trying to be a good person. In early 2019 they solidified their lineup and released EP Change of Scenery. Following this release, they performed regionally at venues, DIY spaces, and even Philly’s House of Vans pop-up event, which featured Yowler and Tierra Whack. Building on the recent success of a long time coming, they recorded their first full-length record in the following winter.
Buddie’s first LP Diving features 8 songs written collaboratively by the permanent lineup. The album pushes the dynamic, guitar-driven sound of their EP further, effectively incorporating new folk and pop influences. Thematically, the album is optimistic, but uncompromising in its urgent attention to the environment and the role of humans in it. Several tracks on the album also turn attention inward to Forrest’s personal life, friends’ experiences, and relationships, offering characteristically hopeful and generous takes on these topics. The band turned to Keith Abrams (The Districts, Vundabar, Pine Barons) for production and Ryan Schwabe (Hop Along, Trace Mountains, Mal Blum) for mastering. Buddie looks forward to sharing Diving in its entirety during summer 2020 on digital and cassette tape formats via Crafted Sounds.
Note: June's record proceeds were donated to Bread & Roses. From July onward, proceeds will be donated to Urban Creators.
